Meet Valerie

1. Tell us a little about where you are from and your family.

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA and moved to Morgantown, WV in 2009. I am recently married (2023) and I have 2 furbabies that are my world. Libby Mae is my marshmallow English Bulldog and Coal Midnight is my smart, handsome German Shepherd. I love the mountains and the beauty of West Virginia.

2. Share with us a bit about your knitting journey. How did you start, and what are some of your favorite projects?

I started knitting in 2020 during the lockdowns of COVID and I learned online through YouTube and zoom calls with a fun group led by a friend. I love to knit garments and break up my large projects with fun accessories like cowls and hats. I have done more than 100 test knits over the years and I love meeting new people and learning new things through test knits while helping designers bring their vision to life.

3. What drew you to Factory Girl Design and what are you most excited about in your new role?

I have always been a fan of Crystal's designs and when the box started, I couldn't wait to get my hands on them. I am most excited to work with Crystal on bringing Maker happiness to others through new designs, fun Maker's Boxes, and a community of like minded people.

4. As someone who has purchased the Maker’s Boxes and now will be assisting in the logistics of these boxes, can you give us a sneak peek into what’s ahead or what you’re most excited to work on for these products?

Oh I have loved 2025 so far, however the plans in mind for 2026 have my creative juices flowing and I think everyone is going to be really excited to get their hands on these! Stay tuned!

5. What is one knitting or crochet tool you just cannot live without and why?

Oh this is so hard, but I would have to say fun stitch markers. I love to coordinate my markers with my project and watching my progress is very motivating and fun.

6. Outside of knitting, what are some of your other hobbies or interests?

I love to read, watch knitting related podcasts (does that count as outside of knitting), and I love being outdoors and camping with my family. We have an RV so that we can take our pups and we travel, enjoy nature, and unplug from the world. I get a lot of knitting done on the road, but also a lot of peace!
